Physical activity and choosing healthy food options are important to achieving a balanced and healthy lifestyle.
Doing this can help all of us to be as happy and healthy as possible, but not everyone in East Sussex is able to achieve a healthy lifestyle.
Active Rother works with partners across East Sussex to address the reasons for unhealthy weight and physical inactivity among the county’s population.
The Healthy Weight Plan for East Sussex explains how East Sussex County Council and the Healthy Weight Partnership will help people to live healthier lives.
East Sussex County Council’s Public Health department has commissioned work with the aim of hearing what residents and other partner organisations think about the Healthy Weight Plan, and about healthy lifestyles in local areas.
You can tell us what you think by completing a survey to share your thought with us. The survey should take 15-20 minutes to complete.
You can also put your thoughts on an interactive map.
What is the Healthy Weight Plan
Active Rother is a member of the East Sussex Healthy Weight partnership. Through the Healthy Weight Plan we’re keen to understand how we can help people to live longer, better lives.
We are particularly keen the views of people in Rother are considered and taken into account in the plan.
In particular, we are keen to hear from people who play a role in supporting residents to be more physically active and move more, as well as those people who would like to but do very little activity.
Health benefits of a healthy lifestyle
Living with excess weight is a well-established risk factor for a range of chronic diseases, including:
- type 2 diabetes
- cardiovascular disease
- many cancers
- liver and respiratory disease.
A growing evidence base also suggests that it is associated with serious Covid-19 illness and death.
There are many, simply ways to change your lifestyle. Being active doesn’t have to mean 10 mile runs and frequent exercise classes.
Now is a perfect time to get in the garden and prepare your outside space for winter.
A colleague from the County Council share their ultimate gardening tips.
Maybe re-starting an old sport or taking up a new one will jump-start your motivation. Or just take the opportunity to get outside and enjoy a walk.
