Towards the end of 2025, a Training Needs survey was carried out by Active Rother, working with Active Sussex, Active Eastbourne and Lewes, Healthy Wealden and Active Hastings.

Based on this survey and its findings we have worked together to arrange a series of training workshops focusing on the topics identified as being most requested.

    Aims

This programme aims to build skills, confidence and capacity across the local sport and physical activity workforce covering topics such as:

    • Supporting more people to live active, healthier lives
    • Information on resources available including funding
    • Strengthening community engagement

    Who is the Training For?

The programme is for clubs, coaches, volunteers and community activity providers running sport and physical activity opportunities within East Sussex.

Three workshops that are planned over the next few months are set out below. For flexibility, these include face to face and online access options for each.

    Workshop Descriptions

    Raising Money For Your Club

This workshop provides practical guidance on fundraising strategies to support your club or organisation’s financial sustainability. You’ll explore various ways to raise money, including grant funding, and learn the key ‘dos and don’ts’ for securing financial support. Through interactive discussions, you’ll assess your organisation’s funding needs, compare different fundraising approaches, and develop a tailored plan to meet both short-term and long-term financial goals. You’ll leave with actionable strategies to strengthen your organisation’s financial future.

    Engaging Your Community

This workshop explores the principles and benefits of community engagement, helping  organisations build  stronger connections with the people they serve. You’ll assess your organisation’s current relationship with your local community, identify opportunities for deeper engagement, and develop practical strategies to strengthen these connections. Through discussion and reflection, you’ll map out your community landscape, explore your organisation’s role within it, and devise action plans to foster meaningful interactions that support both your goals and the wider community’s needs.

Helping People to Become More Active

This interactive workshop is designed to equip participants with a comprehensive understanding of physical activity, covering the importance and benefits of physical activity, types of activity and national guidelines, practical tips and common barriers to staying active, positive conversation skills and signposting and resources. The main outcomes from the training are:

    • Improved knowledge and understanding of physical activity and its benefits
    • Improved confidence to have conversations about physical activity
    • Improved knowledge of physical activity resources and local activities.
