Club cricket is in full swing and players will be aiming to emulate the amazing skills of professional cricketers playing in England during the summer.
Alongside the competitive side of playing sports, it should always be fun. And of course, sport is good for your mental and physical health.
Whether you’re a seasoned player or new to the sport, cricket is a great opportunity to get fitter, learn new skills and meet new friends.
There are several teams across the district where you can play, or help out at, be it at a competitive or social level.
Join your local club

One such opportunity to become more involved in the game is at Sidley Cricket Club’s open day on 20 July at their ground at St Marys.
The day promises to be a fun filled day of cricket with refreshments available. The day will include a children’s cricket match at 11.30am and adult match from 1pm.

Bexhill Cricket Club is hosting a free cricket camp on 4 and 5 August. the camps are held between 9am to 9pm and are open to boys and girls aged 8-11.

Getting children playing
This summer our national players are battling India and South Africa in international games. In the domestic schedule, Sussex County Cricket team is playing in a number of tournaments, and of course the young person-focused Hundred tournament begins in August.
So, what better time to introduce your young person to the sport?
For young-people aged 5-8 years old there is All Stars Cricket. This gives many youngster’s their first experience of the game. It includes eight- weeks of fun activities and skills development.
The programme is designed to teach young people new skills, help them make new friends and have a great time doing so.

For older children – either new to the game or graduating from All Stars Cricket – there’s Dynamos Cricket.
This is the perfect programme for all 8-11 year-olds.
Children will use soft balls and light wooden bats to home their skills during 60-90 minute sessions held over an eight-week period.
