Overcoming physical barriers.

- Adam's Story

It’s all too easy to find reasons not to exercise but Tennis for Free coach Adam Field doesn’t think health conditions or limitations should be a barrier to participating in physical exercise.

Adam is a tennis coach and former GB wheelchair tennis player. He has been playing tennis for over 15 years and passed his level three coaching qualification two years ago. While Adam is a wheelchair user himself he regularly coaches able-bodied players and wheelchair users of all ages and abilities.

Adam has been coaching the Tennis for Free sessions in Bexhill since 2018.

Active Rother - Tennis for Free Story

Adam says...

"Teaching from the chair helps me to reassure people that their own health conditions or limitations need not be a barrier to playing.

"I did have one guy come along in a wheelchair and we slowed the pace of the game down so that he could participate along with everyone else.

"Tennis for Free isn’t about coming along and being able to hit the ball ten times without making a mistake, it is about having fun, chilling out and feeling at home.

"The other coaches are great at making people feel relaxed and helping people to learn some new skills."
