An annual event aimed at helping Rother residents to be healthier and happier returns to De La Warr Lawns next this weekend.
Be Active brings together local sports clubs and groups from across the district to showcase the wide range of activities on offer and promote a more active lifestyle.
Active Rother and Rother District Council have teamed up with more than 27 local sporting groups and organisations to make the event on Sunday (July 8). This will make it one of the biggest held to date, with an opportunity to speak to activity providers and organisations as well as try out some free classes.
Cllr Jim Carroll, the district council’s cabinet member for young people, sport and leisure, said: “Taking part in sport has huge benefits for physical and mental health and wellbeing, but many people do not know how to get started.
“Be Active offers a great opportunity to find out more about the activities available in Rother and try out new sports. With so many different activities on offer, people of all ages and abilities will be able to find something which suits them.”
Those attending the event will be able to try a number of activities on the day including martial arts, Piloxing and Powerhooping. Demonstrations in activities such as circle dancing and yoga for arthritis will also take place during the event.
Representatives from One You East Sussex will be on hand with health advice and information about their award winning “man v fat” football programme. There will also be stalls giving information about activities for young and old, including walking sports, water babies, and information on summer activities for youngsters.
This year’s event, organised by Rother District Council in association with Bexhill Lions, Sussex Community Development Association and Rother Voluntary Action, will run from 10am to 3pm on Sunday, July 8, at De La Warr Lawns, Bexhill.
