In the Rother Area we are very lucky to have some of the most picturesque coastal landscapes in the region. With beaches stretching from Norman’s Bay to Camber Sands, there is around 15 miles of coastline.

From the peace and tranquillity of Normans Bay, Cooden Beach and Winchelsea, to the high-season bustle of Bexhill and vibrant activities at Camber, everyone can access and enjoy a seaside to suit all tastes. Camber, Bexhill, Norman’s Bay and Cooden are all seaside award-winning beaches.

So, for a refreshing way to get active in the ‘great outdoors’ and to soak up the sea air, why not visit these scenic locations right on our doorstep?

Forestry and nature reserves

Bedgebury National Pinetum & Forest

On the North West side of Rother are the beautiful outdoors sites of Bedgebury Pinetum and Forest. Bedgebury has something for everyone and offers adventurous play opportunities for young people and all ages. Open every day, Bedgebury is the perfect place for healthy outdoor exercise.  The National Pinetum offers beautiful walks amongst the conifers.  Bedgebury Forest features family cycling, mountain-biking, Go Ape, riding, walking, adventure play for all ages and abilities. Bewl Water

There’s always plenty to do at Bewl Water. The largest lake in the south east offers waterside walks, rides and cycling routes, watersports, boat trips, children’s adventure playground, visitor centre and gift shop.

Bewl Water reservoir is the largest stretch of open water in south east England. Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty, in the heart of the High Weald on the Kent and Sussex border, the reservoir is host to a huge variety of wildlife and one of the region’s most popular attractions.

Hastings Country Park

While named Hastings Country Park, this park area spreads into Fairlight in Rother. Hastings Country Park has over 660 acres of ancient woodland, heathland and grassland together with 5 kilometres of dramatic cliffs and coastline.

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve

Rye Harbour Nature Reserve is a mosaic of habitats beside the sea with shingle, saltmarsh, sand dunes, rivers, pits, grazing marsh, reedbeds and farmland - full of wildlife for you to discover.
The Nature Reserve is varied and dynamic, so you can discover and enjoy a wide range of species at all times of the year. We hold regular events to introduce you to some of our very best wildlife experiences.
